Never completes the setup process. As soon as you hit complete (or whatever button to finalize) the app disappears. You click to open it back up and have to start all over again. Round and round . Sounds like it would be an awesome app though.

It's decent for personal growth tracking, though not groundbreaking. The insights can feel a bit surface-level at times and the initial setup asks quite a few questions before you get into the real value, but once you're past that, it's a solid companion for reflecting on your development journey and staying accountable to your goals.

Kin AI is a breath of fresh air in the companion AI space. The recent addition of a calling function makes interactions feel more natural, and the fact that it isn’t hidden behind paywalls shows a real commitment to accessibility. It’s definitely competitive, and in many ways, it sets a strong example for others in the market. That said, there’s still room to grow. Right now, Kin AI is missing a web-based version, which limits its reach. For PC users, being tied to mobile feels restrictive and keeps it from fully standing alongside competitors like Ash AI or industry leaders such as Character AI. Expanding platform access would make it far more versatile and appealing. Even with that limitation, Kin AI is moving in the right direction. With solid features and fair access, it’s one of the stronger companion AIs available today — a solid four-star experience with plenty of potential to hit five.

KIN is awesome, I migrated from PI since I heard that it stopped development. However I got one big problem, that's the UI, I use a samsung-android. The ui looks a bit odd, the chatbar is like half visible under the navigation bar, the only way to fully reveal it is by clicking it. So no it's not a big problem, since there's a solution but it does trigger the thoughts of it being "imperfect" but overall super good.

KIN AI COMPANION REVIEW (April 24, 2025 - v0.3.12) After extensive testing, here's my balanced take on this privacy-focused AI companion app. THE GOOD: Still completely free with strong privacy focus, mission-driven developers who actively seek feedback, helpful Discord community, great opportunity for early adopters to shape development, excellent local voice processing via Whisper protocol (or clodu-based Azure for older devices), constantly improving memory system that now references past conversations like ChatGPT, clean interface that doesn't try to do everything, regular updates with easy feature testing through settings. THE CHALLENGES: App stability still isn't production-ready (expect beta software quirks because it is), the in-app feedback system is clunky, though support via Discord works well, a major limitation is no web/desktop versions, and zero sync between platforms. Android and iOS devices act as separate instances with no shared data. BOTTOM LINE: Perfect for privacy-conscious users who don't mind beta testing and want to influence AI companion development. Skip if you need rock-solid stability or cross-platform sync. The principled team and active community make this worth watching, even if you must wait for more polish.

The memory mapping is impressive, but the quality of conversation is not that good. No cross-platform support, especially no web UI, so I can’t continue a conversation from another device. Also, I’d like to be able to change the Kin’s name

It's good, to a point, no voice call function, uses phone's on board voice engine to generate speech on messages only, doesn't allow for propper voice handsfree input, no web app support, locked to phones and mobile devices only. Needs work to properly compete against the likes of Chat, Kindroid, Replika and it's closest competitor Pi Ai! I wanna see this develop properly, but I'm not hopeful based on recent developments

It's too bad that Pi.ai is no longer under active development, as the owning company is now focusing entirely on Enterprise models. :-( I enjoyed Pi, also. Its abandonment is part of what led me to find KIN. What were some of the recent developments you say that turned you away?

I joined Kin's beta program on my iPhone XR. After upgrading to an iPhone 13, I found that I couldn't log into my existing account on the new phone, forcing me to create a new account. Now, I have two separate Kin accounts on different phones. Today, when I accessed the beta version of Kin, I got a notification stating that the test version ended on Monday, September 23rd. It instructed me to back up my data and move to the official Kin app. I did as advised—backed up my data, confirmed, uninstalled the beta app via TestFlight, and installed the official Kin app. However, when I attempted to “log in”, I was still unable to access my existing account. This issue hasn't been resolved yet. I have been trying desperately to get in contact with the support team. I left feedback through the test flight app and sent emails. No response. Now trying to find a forums, Reddit posts, TAAFT comments☻
