Carbon-8B is an 8B-parameter decoder-only autoregressive generative DNA foundation model from Hugging Face Bio, released under Apache 2.0. It is the higher-capacity sibling of Carbon-3B and is trained on DNA and RNA sequences with a primary focus on eukaryotes. The model uses a hybrid tokenizer combining non-overlapping 6-mer DNA tokens with Qwen3 BPE for English text, supports a native 32,768-token context window, approximately 196 kbp, and can be extended with YaRN to 128K tokens, approximately 786 kbp. It is intended for genomic sequence generation, scoring, long-context retrieval-style genomic tasks, and downstream biological modeling workflows.
