ERNIE-5.1 is Baidu’s latest preview model in the ERNIE line, designed to improve foundational capability, agentic post-training performance, and cost-effectiveness over ERNIE-5.0. Baidu says it keeps the ERNIE-5.0 pretraining foundation while reducing total parameters to about one-third and active parameters to about one-half, using only about 6% of the pretraining cost of comparable models. The company also says it is powered by decoupled fully asynchronous reinforcement learning and scaled agentic post-training, and reports strong leaderboard results including No. 1 among Chinese models on LMArena Text.
