ESMC

ESMC, short for ESM Cambrian, is Biohub’s next-generation protein language model family trained on protein sequences at large biological scale. Unlike ESM3, which is focused on controllable generative protein design, ESMC is focused on representation learning: creating useful embeddings and biological understanding from protein sequences for downstream scientific tasks. Biohub describes ESMC as defining a new state of the art for protein representation learning, and Hugging Face lists ESMC model variants including 300M, 600M, and 6B checkpoints.

Overview

ESMC is Biohub’s open protein language model family for learning protein representations from sequence data and mapping biological function across the tree of life.

About Chan Zuckerberg Biohub

Chan Zuckerberg Biohub is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit biomedical research organization combining frontier AI and frontier biology to understand and cure disease. It operates research hubs in San Francisco, Chicago, and New York, and develops open AI tools including the ESM family of protein language models (ESMFold2, ESMC, ESM Atlas), made freely available to the global scientific community.
