We are pleased to submit my proposal in response to your call for an expert to lead business advisory efforts for the livestock value chains component under the agribusiness programme. With over two decades of experience in livestock programs, particularly in dryland pastoral systems, We bring a wealth of knowledge and hands-on expertise to support Kajiado County’s vision for integrated economic development. Approach to Sustainable Livestock Value Chains We propose an integrated and participatory approach to developing sustainable business models for meat, milk, and leather value chains. My strategy aligns with the county’s goals by ensuring that environmental, social, cultural, and economic interests of local communities are central to all activities. Key focus areas will include: Value Chain Analysis and Business Model Development: Conducting a comprehensive value chain assessment to identify market opportunities and constraints. Designing sustainable and profitable business models tailored to local conditions. Supporting local enterprises and cooperatives in business planning and financial sustainability. Environmental and Wildlife Considerations: Promoting climate-smart livestock practices to ensure ecosystem balance and sustainable resource use. Developing strategies for harmonious livestock-wildlife co-existence, integrating conservation-based business models where feasible. Capacity Building and Stakeholder Engagement: Training pastoralists, agro-pastoralists, and relevant stakeholders on best practices in production, processing, and marketing. Facilitating partnerships with private sector actors, research institutions, and financial service providers to drive investment and innovation. Policy and Advocacy Support: Leveraging my experience in advocacy at regional and international levels to support policy recommendations for an enabling business environment. Engaging policymakers to develop frameworks that enhance the competitiveness and sustainability of livestock value chains.
